Milan Kundera, a well-known author, died at the age of 94

Milan Kundera, well known for his masterwork 'The Unbearable Lightness of Being,' has died at 94, according to Czech TV.

Milan Kundera was praised for his ability to present themes and characters that fluidly oscillated between the commonplace realities of everyday existence and the vast realm of ideas.

"Unfortunately, I can confirm that Mr. Milan Kundera passed away yesterday (Tuesday) after a prolonged illness," said Anna Mrazova, a spokesperson for the library in his hometown of Brno.

"He died at home, in his Paris flat," she claimed.

Kundera was born on April 1, 1929, in Brno, the second largest city in the Czech Republic, and studied in Prague. He, on the other hand, fled to France in 1975 after being shunned for condemning the Soviet invasion of Czechoslovakia in 1968.

Milan Kundera, known for his sombre and thought-provoking novels, probed the complexities of the human condition while subtly injecting them with humour.

His paintings bore the imprint of his personal experience, having lost his Czech nationality as a result of his opposing ideas.

He created poetry and short stories as well as translated works by the French poet Guillaume Apollinaire. Kundera also taught at a film school, where one of his students was future Oscar winner Milos Forman.

Kundera made a huge breakthrough in 1967 with the release of his novel "The Joke." This moving work told the story of a young man who was expelled from both university and the Communist Party due to the consequences of an innocent joke.
